How to prepare for your home energy assessment

Have these ready

• Twelve months of fuel bills or delivery slips (oil, propane, gas) and electric bills; a login to your utility's website works too
• The heated square footage, roughly, and the year the house was built
• Access to the attic hatch, the basement and any crawl space; move stored items away from the hatch
• A list of the rooms that are too cold, too hot or drafty
• Any past insulation, roofing or heating work you know of
• If you heat partly with wood or pellets, how much you burn in a season

What we do during the visit

1. Interview and walk-through
2. Blower-door test and infrared scan, with the furnace or boiler off for the test
3. Attic, wall and basement inspection with photos and insulation depth readings
4. Combustion safety test on the heating system and water heater
5. Measurements for the model
